Premarital Sex and Abortion

For those who will be attending St. John's parent seminar on October 5th, or for those who are just interested in the topic we will be discussing, I'd like to share with you a little teaser information in anticipation of the event.

Former President A. L. Barry of the LCMS, during his time in office, wrote a series of 27 pamphlets dealing with doctrinal and moral issues in the church. I would like to draw your attention to two of these pamphlets: that on "Living Together Without Marriage", and that on "Abortion". If you follow the link, you can download both.

These pamphlets clearly state the Scriptural and official LCMS position on the issues of premarital sex and abortion, both of which will be covered during the October 5 seminar. Knowing the Scriptural perspective on such issues is the first step in speaking to your adolescent about them. Parents have been given by God the authority and responsibility to train their children in the Holy Scriptures (Deut. 11:19, Eph. 6:4). When an adolescent comes across an issue of sexual ethics such as premarital sex or abortion, the parents have a responsibility to teach him or her what the Scriptures say about such an issue.

That's all I can say at this point without giving away the entirety of the presentation, so I hope to see you on October 5 at 12:30!

God's blessings,
